During the filming of Maria Conversa, my documentary about the creative process of actress Blanca Portillo as she prepares to play The Testament of Mary, I compiled footage of other actresses playing Mary.

This archive footage is mixed with the images of Roser Farrés as she gives birth to her first son, and who very kindly allowed me to be present with my camera at such sacred occasion. 

​

To give birth is to maintain a dialogue with death. Not only because the woman may die from it, but because she brings into the world a being that carries its own death within. 

 

This piece is dedicated to all the mothers and all the persons who have not seen or lived the birth of a human being.
